Predating the establishment of the RFC base at Bembridge by two years are these photos of the Maurice Farman S.11 Shorthorn seaplane No.29 on the beach there in 1914 (possibly during July).
Bembridge

Established in 1916 as a seaplane base by the RFC at Bembridge Point(see map above),initially with four Short 184 aircraft operated by 412 and 413 Flights.In August 1918 absorbed by 253( Nizam of Hyderabad's ) SQ with a total of 12 aircraft(including Hamble Babies and Campanias) .253 Sq disbanded 31st May 1919,but the station remained operational until 1920.Later in 1923,the hangar which had been built to accomodate the aircraft was dismantled and taken to Shanklin where it was re-erected for use as a theatre. Presently used by Summerland Amusement Arcade .
